Articulate Nonsense: Podcast Review

June 10, 2020

Review of podcast:  Full Disclosure: Your reviewer knows Fareeda personally from having worked a service industry job together once, and can vouch she is the Real Deal.

“Queen” Fareeda is a host that straddles so many categories it can make one’s head spin: young, Canadian, Black, a University student, Muslim, pop culturally aware, digitally literate and, yes, articulate in all the best ways.  She is relatively new to the podcasting game as it is obviously a side hustle compared to her nursing studies here in Canada but she has taken to it like the proverbial fish to H2O.

Her show is primarily about current affairs and popular culture, particularly online, as viewed through both her own discerning lens and the thoughts and feelings of her guests and collaborators.  To be fair I doubt a middle-aged White guy from the suburbs like me is her target demographic but I had no difficulty in being engaged by the topics, the banter, and the opportunity to learn how the world is being experienced by people who might come from very different backgrounds from myself but at the same time are thinking and feeling similarly about recent events that have set the (Western) world on its head.

Essential First Listens:

#ArticulateNonsense: 1. Did someone say COVID-Tiger King? The first episode, introducing the podcast and host as well as setting the stage for the unreal COVID-19 world which we all find ourselves inhabiting in 2020.

#ArticulateNonsense: 4. The Black Attack #BlackLivesMatter ft Galair It may be the podcast’s fourth episode but it is also a seminal one as Fareeda and her guest discuss the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the incredible outpouring of grief, anger, and activism that followed, both online and on the streets
